Do You Know Where Your Cats Are?
Dear Neighbors,
Two cats have been observed wandering near the Amethyst Lane and Cheyenne Trail area. One is a gray and white cat and the other is a black cat (photos below). While the gray and white cat has simply been seen outdoors a couple of times, the black cat is disrupting the neighborhood by chasing wildlife and hissing at indoor pets through windows. A neighbor also recently observed that the black cat appears to be a bit beat up.
It is crucial that community members keep their cats indoors, especially in our harsh Sonoran Desert:
- Desert Hazards: Outdoor cats face a lifespan of just 2 to 5 years (compared to 12+ years indoors) due to extreme heat, traffic, and predators like coyotes. Sadly, a local cat recently died on Hidden Valley Road.
- Wildlife Impact: Studies estimate that free-roaming cats contribute to billions of bird deaths annually in the U.S., putting an immense strain on local ecosystems and native bird populations.
This is a heartfelt plea to the owners of these cats. Please bring your pets inside for their own safety and the safety of our wildlife.
If you have questions or can help identify the owners, please call or text Chandra Crisp at 520-307-0801.
Thank you for keeping our neighborhood safe for every resident.
