Possible Rabid Cat!

Please read the missive below from member Hope Peterson.

A person is now on a rabies treatment regime due to being scratched by an aggressive stray, wandering cat.  No matter how you feel about the freedom and independence of cats, we need to join together and locate this cat so that it can be taken care of properly.  Please turn your eyes to finding this poor creature, for its own sake and ours.

There has been a large charcoal grey/black cat roaming the neighborhood (at all hours) around Surrey & Rawhide the last few months – since about april/may. Looked well fed very friendly & playful.  Don’t know who owns him, if anybody does at all

On Tuesday (8/4) showed up scratching at our door (unusual), so I had my daughter go outside and leave some water, since it has been hot.

After leaving the water, the cat ran after and attacked her leaving scratches/bite.  Very not normal behavior for this cat.

We have reported it to Pima County Animal Control ((520) 724-5900 ) and they want to be notified if & when we see it again.

My daughter has started rabies treatments –  please alert the neighborhood and warn of possible rabies. !

Thank you!

  1. I live on Big Horn Trail near Moonstone. A large stray cat has been in my yard recently, roaming around for about 20 minutes. I did not approach the cat. Thank you.
